About This Event

We invite you to join us for an outdoor gathering and guided tour hosted by Mike, Carina, and a knowledgeable tour guide from the Erie Canal Discovery Center.

Mike, Carina, and Pam Holland will be in the Niagara/Lockport area of upstate New York conducting historical research. We’re investigating local history and gathering detailed information about a family of Irish Famine Orphans we’ve been tracing from County Roscommon, Ireland.

This unique opportunity combines our ongoing genealogical research with the chance to explore the fascinating connections between Irish immigration and the Erie Canal’s development during the 19th century.

Location and Other Information

• Meeting Details: We’ll gather at 11:00 AM at the Erie Canal Discovery Center, located at 24 Church Street, Lockport, NY 14094. You can learn more about the center here.
• Tour Experience Becky Burns from the Discovery Center will serve as our guide, leading us through the center and the nearby Erie Canal and Locks. The tour will focus specifically on the rich connections between the canal and the Irish community from the early to late 1800s.
• Schedule & Optional Lunch The guided tour will conclude around 1:00 PM. While you’re welcome to depart then, we’d be delighted if you’d join us for lunch at a local restaurant afterward.
• Cost Information We’ll cover all tour expenses. Lunch costs will be individual responsibility for those who choose to stay.
